Higher the risk higher the pay,
Its a established fact that emloyee leave organisation not only for better grapes and mangoes but for their line managers. Many have correctly written on people leave managers and not organisation.
But if you venture deeply into the labyrinths of this subject you will find some basic truth on why do they leave organisation.
In my schooling I had learnt some basic physics on Battery. The current flows when there is a Pottential Difference between point A and Point B. The current flow from higher level to lower level.
This is what should idealy happen in the organization. Have you ever questioned yourselve,
" What is the potential difference between you and your boss ?"
Higher the difference greater the chances that you respect your line manager.
Many a time when the employee joins the company there is huge knowlege gap between the new emloyee and his line manager. This is so because the new employee needs to adjust, understand the working of the organisation.
As the time passes by the new employee is accustomed to the processes the procedures and gains his functional knowlege gradually. No sooner he finds that there is very little to learn from his line manager the trouble starts. That means the pottential difference has narrowed down to almost Zero. That is the dangerous situation a organisation should always look into.
The HR dept always conducts refresher training to juniors but what happento seniors ?
The employee will get dejected and frustrated as somewhere down the line he feels that he has got better knowlege and expertise in the given nature of work and he is not allowed to do the same.
Many line managers take for granted that his/ her position is safe and he/ she is senior in the organisation chart. But with seniority he/ she fails to upgrade the knowledge level to suite current organisational requirement.
That means there is very little potential difference difference between the line manager and the sub-ordinate. And by constantly upgrading the knowledge levels one can restrict the attrition rate to certain extent with all certainity.
This is how I belive that one needs to always create a potential difference between the boss and subordinate for smooth functioning of the organisation.
